Today, we welcome Jan Scarbrough and the fabulous box set of Last Chance Beach: Summer's End!

I’ve joined the ladies from the Romance Gems Blog in a summer beach read taking place at fictitious Last Chance Beach. Last Chance Beach: Summer’s End is box set releasing August 4th. It is available only on Kindle Unlimited. The price, if you don’t belong to KU, is a mere 99 cents!

Last Chance Beach is the island paradise where dreams go to live again and wishes may come true. It’s Summer’s End on the island, and the cottages, condos, hotels, and bungalows are filled to capacity.

Throw a log on the beach bonfire tonight and celebrate Last Chance Beach: Summer’s End, a special collection of 14 short stories from bestselling authors—all new, never published before—that will thrill the hopeful romantic in you. My contribution to the box set is a seasoned romance/second chance short story called Romancing the Spouse.

Here’s what the story is about: Summer vacation has always been special for Jennifer Carson. With her family grown, she’s at a loss because it’s just her husband and her this summer. Can she turn back the clock to save her marriage?

I was driving and wondering what I’d write for the box set when the title came to me. Romancing the Spouse! That’s it! I must admit I loved the movie Romancing the Stone back in the day.

Here’s a bit of an excerpt for my short story:

Jen smiled at the snapshots. Memories of cookouts on the beach, fishing trips along the waterway between Last Chance Beach and the mainland, long walks on the sand at night flooded through her. She felt a pulse of emotion well up. They’d been so carefree, marking time before their lives changed big time. So hopeful, so excited about the next big step.

She’d kept a diary that summer. Peering inside the box once more, she found it. She flipped through the pages until she located August of that year and began to read.

Joe and I took a walk on the beach. He held my hand and told me he enjoyed my silly sense of humor. We laughed and kicked sand and water on each other. He said I’d made his vacation memorable. The moon was full and shimmered on the ocean. He pulled me around and kissed me. No one had ever kissed me like that. Like he meant it. I kissed him back and put my arms around his neck. He asked me to write him at med school. To keep him in touch with the real world. I agreed, and he kissed me again. He didn’t tell me he loved me, but I knew I loved him.

About Jan Scarbrough

Jan Scarbrough is the author of two popular Bluegrass series. She writes heartwarming contemporary romances about home and family, single moms and children, and if the plot allows, about another passion—horses. Living in the horse country of Kentucky makes it easy for Jan to add small town, Southern charm to her books and the excitement of a Bluegrass horse race or a competitive horse show. Jan’s newest contemporary western romance is the Ghost Mountain Ranch series. Jan leaves her contemporary voice behind with two paranormal gothic romances, Timeless and Tangled Memories, a Romance Writers of America (RWA) Golden Heart finalist. Her historical romance, My Lord Raven, is a medieval story of honor and betrayal.
